Moms In Art (MIA) - Rotterdam, Netherlands
A project focussing on traditional living migrant women in European countries to (re)discover art and creativity, and to practice the language of the European country they migrated to, learn about it’s culture and society, and by doing this help them to feel at home in Europe. Examples of art will be presented to a.o. illustrate themes discussed, including non-western art. After a 15 sessions training an exhibition shows the creative results. During the training, the women learn about European society, discuss, exchange personal experiences and learn creative skills. In community homes, women’s centres and schools. Afterwards the groups are revisited to registrate personal developments, this will be filmed. Exchanges of teachers / trainers / artists, a publication / website are part of the project. Start: fall 2010, 12 months.
