Project summary:
Bars are the main meeting points for the citizenship, where people spend their leisure time, «living» the city and the territory. Making bars to be also means and vehicles of awareness about social issues, is a challenge not so easy to be faced, since it is necessary to count even the economical sustainability of the activity it self. Notwithstanding, bars are a privileged place to start sensitising and informing people about social related common matters, stimulating debate and reflections on public topics. With this project we’d like to share experiences and practices with other Partners managing some ways social bars, creating occasions to improve each other management strategy and to spread each bar visibility that can be feed even after the project end, thanks to the direct involvement of each Partner Country citizens. The final result would be to have social bars able to affect more on the public debate, with an effect on the agenda setting of local decision makers.
Overall objective:
According to the EU2020 target for inclusive growth ("at least 20 million fewer people in or at risk of poverty and social exclusion") the project aims at emphasizing the role of social bar in the promotion of the social cohesion".
Giving citizens the opportunity to interact and participate in constructing a tighter-knit Europe, which is democratic and world-oriented, united and enriched by its cultural diversity, thus developing citizenship of the European Union.
Developing a sense of European identity, based on common values, history and culture.
Fostering a sense of ownership of the European Union among its citizens.
Enhancing tolerance and mutual understanding between European citizens, respecting and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity, while contributing to intercultural dialogue.
Encouraging interaction between citizens and civil society organisations from all participating countries.
Specific objective:
- Promoting public participation at the local level, promoting the importance of citizens’ active role in social inclusion policies at the local and European level;
- Raising awareness, reflection and debate on the relevance and implications of EU policies on citizens' daily lives;
- Exchanging views with and presenting results to the appropriate decision makers on ongoing European policies and their impact on local situations as well as on local issues with an European dimension.
- Promoting at the institutional level the role of social bar as key-actor able to guarantee new models of social cohesion
Final beneficiaries:
Partners organisation and members;
Wider citizenship.
Main activities:
- Study visits/workshop in each Partner Country to exchange the experience of each Partner organisation on “Social Bar”. For this occasion an event will be organised by the Social Bar of the Hosting Partner, to be considered as a sample of “how to make a social issue appealing for a wide public”. Participants will be a couple of representatives per Partner and small groups of citizens;
- Final common event
- Creation of media tools (e.g. video)
- Sensitisation through dissemination materials.
Estimated results:
Share good practices which could be implemented by the civil societies taking part into the project. If social bars start being recognised by citizens as meeting points that can give them voices and occasions to propose changes to policy makers, a big step will be done in order to actually build a local participated democracy, caring about its future and about the quality of its life.
