Short presentation of your organisation (key activities, experience):
The City of Warsaw is a local self-government unit which
executes public tasks as well as tasks resulting from the
capital character of the city. The city provides public
services, encompassing municipal and social services and
it is also responsible for satisfying the needs of the
inhabitants in the field of: education, health care, culture,
social welfare, safety and public order. Warsaw has a
significant experience with international cooperation
through participation in various city networks as well as
through various EU funded projects (more than 200
bilateral and international projects).
Description of the project
Action, Measure in the framework of „Europe for Citizens” Programme
Action 1 Active citizens for Europe
Measure 1.2 Thematic Networking of Twinned Towns
Timetable of the project: 2nd semester of 2011
Short description of the project, including its aims:
City of Warsaw would like to initiate a debate among
European cities about the ways of engaging citizens in
their communities. Within the framework of this project
we want to focus on developing, spreading and
promoting volunteerism idea.
We are planning to organize 3 events in Warsaw:
1) Workshops with participation of cities’ NGOs
representatives, social activists, representatives of
scientific circles (sociology, social psychology) and city
institutions with the aim to discuss the issue of
voluntary work, share experiences and think over how
to make volunteerism more attractive for various
social groups (about 2-3 days, 50-60 participants)
2) Conference aiming at presentation of workshop
results and recommendations during “Nongovernmental
Initiatives Forum” in Warsaw
(September 2011) with active participation of NGO
representatives, city experts and citizens (1 or 2 days,
if 1 day – max 400 participants, if 2 days – max 200
participants)
3) Volunteerism fairs with active participation of NGO
representatives and people interested in voluntary
work (students, seniors, disabled people), combined
with a review of films and exhibition about
volunteerism (1 or 2 days, 100 or 200 participants)
Role of the partner organisation in the project:
1) Elaboration of concrete ideas and event’s
programmes
2) Nominating and sending participants (from all
stakeholder groups) for each event
3) Cooperation in the travel preparation logistics for
Warsaw events
4) Participation in promotional activities
5) Participation also in co-financing
Comments from the applicant: Deadline for this call is 1st February 2011 (!)
