Project name: NETWORKS OF VOLUNTARY FAMILIES “THE RIGHT TO GROW UP”
INTRODUCTION
The project was born out of the meeting among various voluntary associations from different areas that have promoted, through specific paths, the experience of a network of families welcoming minors from situations of uneasiness. These associations, although with different peculiarities, share fundamental values, such as the promotion and the enhancement of that range of opportunities of reception and of attention to social discomfort that develops around open household groups.
The common aim is to work in the context of everyday life, in order to reinforce and recreate those bonds of social life that can give citizenship to both the efforts of those people in difficulty and those who are committed to creating a society more just.
The networks of voluntary families felt involved by the stories they came to know and, together with the social-health services, are promoting this project.
OBJECTIVES
- Promoting, in a continuative or partial way, the activities of these networks of families who are open to the reception and the support of minors in difficulty and their families.
- Creating a European net made of family networks, voluntary associations and public services on the themes of reception and solidarity.
- To delineate good national-ranging procedures that can be exportable in other European contexts.
- Pursuing some operative targets through specific experimentations in the contexts of the countries that are our partners.
ACTVITIES
- events to raise awareness and to involve new voluntary families.
- formative workshops on the themes of reception and solidarity for the new voluntary families
- counselling and supervision by professional educators for the voluntary families
- coordinating tables with other local subjects (schools, associations, sport clubs) on the theme of solidarity.
- counselling and supervision by professional educators for the families of the minors in situations of uneasiness.
TARGET GROUP
The project called “The Right to Grow Up” aims at answering the needs of children and adolescents coming from situations either of social, domestic, physical or psychic uneasiness, whose assumption of responsibility has now become an extremely complex social emergence.
PARTNER SEARCHED
We are looking for associations and organizations working on networks of families open to the reception and the solidarity towards minors and families in contexts of social/domestic/psychic uneasiness.
DESCRIPTION
“La Casa sull’Albero” is an association composed by volunteers of the Residential Child Care Institution “Alibandus”. Initially the aim of the association was a fund raising campaign to build the “Alibandus” structure. Since the building was finished, the purposes of the association have changed and the members of the association have begun to carry out their voluntary service in the same centre. Furthermore, the association has set up a kind of network of people (families in particular) to help mainly young people with fewer opportunities. Besides, in the last few years, the association has experienced projects related to the Youth in Action programme, especially exchanges of young people. From this perspective, the association has begun to be particularly sensitive to the themes of interculturality and the respect of the minorities.
