Description:
Our project will deal with the changing role of elders in our societies. We will bring together
different European towns in order to compare different historical roles of seniors in local
environments, to critically evaluate their contemporary position and to comprehend what social
changes and transformation of values in history brought about contemporary exclusion of seniors
from social life.
Our aim is to locate good practices of integration of seniors in social life in the past in order to
provide ideas how to reintegrate them into European societies in the future.
To this end we will organize three conferences in Škofja Loka:
First Conference :"Seniors - a cornerstone of local communities": Within this conference we
will compare historical roles of older people in local communities and try to design a common
platform for reintegration of seniors into local communities across different European towns.
This conference will take place from 21.6.2012 – 26.6.2012
Second Conference: "Bridging the inter generational gap": In this conference we will discuss
historical examples of cooperation between generations and try to locate key points for a
rehabilitation of inter generational dialogue.
This conference will take place from 21.6.2013 – 30.6.2013
Third Conference: "Active Seniors for Europe" The last conference will be about the role EU in
the changing role of elders in society. Main topics of discussion will be – what has EU done so
far for reintegration of elders in society and how can participants include in decision making
processes.
This conference will take place from 3.10.2013 – 7.10.2013
